JamPuz is a key component of JOTA-JOTI and can be used by those participating in JOTA-JOTI using amateur radio and the internet – if you are communicating with other Scouts during JOTA-JOTI then you can take part in JamPuz!
JamPuz was launched by the World JOTI Team in 2010 and is now part of the worldwide JOTA-JOTI weekend co-ordinated on behalf of the World Scout Bureau by the World JOTA-JOTI Team.
JamPuz (short for Jamboree Puzzle) is way to swap identity codes with other JOTA-JOTI participants that you interact with during JOTA-JOTI. Each JOTA-JOTI location is issued with a JOTA-JOTI ID code (known as a JID). Only locations registered via www.jotajoti.info will be issued with a 2018 JID; it is important, therefore, that each location registers (ideally by 1 October 2018). Only one person at each JOTA-JOTI location needs to register as JIDs are specific to the JOTA-JOTI location; not specific to each JOTA-JOTI participant. JIDs issued for previous years can not be used this year.
The principle is simple – every time you make contact with another JOTA-JOTI location during the JOTA-JOTI weekend you ask for, and record, their JID – and they will record your JID. Documents are available for download to help you record the JID codes you collect. The documents will include contest sheets.
The objective of JamPuz is to make contact with other Scouts (and Guides) and to help participants to record the variety of countries etc that contact has been made with. But, contacting fellow Scouts is not simply about the number of contacts you make, it is about conversations. So please spend time actually chatting to your fellow Scouts not simply collect their JID and then move on to the next contact. JamPuz is about conversations; not simply contacts.
JIDs are issued for each year of JOTA-JOTI, so a JID issued for a previous year cannot be used this year. Please remember that the JID codes are issued to locations, not to individuals. So, others taking part in JOTA-JOTI at the same place as you will have the same JID.
There are no prizes for collecting (or giving out) the greatest number of JIDs or for the variety of JIDs collected. After JOTA-JOTI we will ask each JOTA-JOTI location, however, to provide us with some statistical information on the number of JIDs collected and the number of JIDs issued. This will help us to record the success of JamPuz 2018, and further develop JamPuz for 2019. We will also encourage you to post to Facebook and scout.org photos of your JamPuz sheets.
If you sign-up for JOTA-JOTI 2018 by 1 October, you will be issued your 2018 JID by email in early October. Those registering later, will be directed to a webpage where they will be able to calculate their JID. Those registering for JOTA-JOTI with a National Scouting Organization will also need to register with the world registration system if they want a JID.
